USC football is a 'major standout' for 4-star linebacker

Tyanthony Smith is a four-star prospect and the No. 312 recruit nationally, according to the 247Sports.com composite

USC's No. 1 target at linebacker this cycle is four-star St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) 'backer Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa. But there's another name at the position USC fans should pay attention to as well.

The Trojans staff has also made serious inroads with four-star Jasper (Texas) linebacker Tyanthony Smith.

Earlier this week, Rivals recruiting director Adam Gorney called USC a "major standout" for Smith. One school is currently ahead of the Trojans in the recruitment though, according to Gorney:

Two things are making Texas A&M the top school for Smith: A recent visit where he hit it off with the players and loved their answers about their program and his relationship with defensive coordinator/linebackers coach DJ Durkin, who Smith called his “right-hand man.” USC is also a major standout for the four-star linebacker from Jasper, Texas, and an upcoming visit to Texas could get the Longhorns squarely in this as well.

Smith will visit USC and Oklahoma this weekend. Those trips will be followed by a visit to Texas.

Smith is a four-star prospect and the No. 312 recruit nationally, according to the 247Sports.com composite. He's the No. 28 linebacker.

Here's 247Sports.com's scouting report on Smith:

Size and athleticism unverified, but tape is encouraging in both regards. Looks lean, athletic, and fairly long on the hoof. Plays hard with consistent motor. Productive sophomore season. Shows impressive pursuit range and accompanying closing juice. Not a liability in space with functional athleticism to match up with skill players. Adding mass and strength will boost arriving impact and foster more consistent disengaging from second-level antagonists. Limited but valuable short-yardage touches check the two-way box, prevalent in long-term linebacker projections. Through sophomore season, looks like a bona fide Power Five-caliber linebacker prospect with developmental upside.
