USC football is a 'strong option' for 4-star linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa

Viliamu-Asa is the No. 89 prospect nationally and the No. 9 'backer

USC football hosted four-star St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa on an official visit over the weekend and the Trojans brought out the big guns.

Viliamu-Asa met with USC legend Troy Polamalu on the trip. Plus, the fact that only one other recruit was on an official visit this weekend, Viliamu-Asa's teammate Peyton Woodyard, meant that the USC staff got to spend a ton of time with the Viliamu-Asa family, which proved to be significant.

"The staff did a great job building a relationship and USC definitely is a strong option now, a lot stronger than they were even a month ago," Viliamu-Asa told 247Sports.com's Greg Biggins following the visit.

Heading into the trip, USC was considered to be on the outside looking in of the recruitment with Ohio State and Notre Dame, Viliamu-Asa's other two finalists, leading the way. The fact that USC is now "a stronger option than they were a month ago" is a significant development for the Trojans.

With how Viliamu-Asa is being recruited, he looks like USC's No. 1 linebacker target this cycle. 247Sports.com ranks Viliamu-Asa as the No. 89 prospect nationally and the No. 9 'backer.

Here's 247Sports.com's scouting report on the four-star prospect:

One of the most versatile linebackers in the country. He's an inside 'backer but a rare every down player who can move around and play multiple spots in a defense. He can stuff the run, blitz off the edge and is very smooth in coverage for a 6-3, 230 pound athlete. He was the state’s top prospect as a freshman but tore his ACL in the final game of the season and missed his entire sophomore year. He’s a huge hitter and has a game built for pads but we saw him during 7v7 play lock up receivers and tight ends in coverage. He’s a smart kid as well, very instinctive and plays with a non-stop motor. He’s a tough kid and has a nice edge in his game.
