As the Cavaliers direct their focus to the recruiting class of 2024, one of their most immediate objectives is to secure a commitment from a point guard. Virginia took a step towards that goal on Monday afternoon, extending an offer to four-star point guard Christian Bliss.

A 6'4" guard who plays at George School in Newtown, Pennsylvania, Bliss is coming off a fantastic junior season that saw him earn all-state honors in Pennsylvania as the non-PIAA Player of the Year after averaging 20 points and 5.2 assists per game while shooting 56% from the floor and 43% from three. Bliss set the George School single-season scoring record with 578 points scored in 2022-2023, a campaign that is causing many top programs in college basketball to take a close look at the standout point guard.

Virginia jumped in the mix with an offer on Monday, joining a list of more than a dozen programs who have offered Bliss, including Villanova, Miami, Xavier, St. John's, and Penn State. Villanova appears to be the leader currently, as Bliss took a visit to the Wildcats last month. Bliss also took an unofficial visit to Virginia back in February, watching courtside as UVA defeated Duke at John Paul Jones Arena.

“It was a very nice visit. It was great being able to talk to the coaching staff and seeing them in person," Bliss said in an interview with Houston Wilson of CavsCorner back in February. "Virginia has a really nice culture and being able to see that up close and in person was awesome. The program has really impressed me.”

Bliss is still a three-star prospect on 247Sports, which also lists him as a shooting guard, but other recruiting services Rivals and On3 both rate Bliss as a four-star point guard and a fringe top 100 overall prospect in the recruiting class of 2024. Originally from Brooklyn, Bliss transferred to George School in Pennsylvania after playing at Archbishop Molloy in Queens for his freshman and sophomore seasons.

In addition to Bliss, other point guards UVA has offered in the 2024 recruiting class include Travis Perry (Eddyville, KY) and Daniel Freitag (Minneapolis, MN), but Bliss appears to be towards the top of Virginia's priority list at the point guard position at present.

Virginia currently has active offers out to 12 players in the recruiting class of 2024:

PF Jarin Stevenson (Pittsboro, NC)
CG Jaeden Mustaf (Matthews, NC)
SG Jayden "Juke" Harris (Salisbury, NC)
