This has been a busy week on the recruiting front for the Virginia men's basketball program. Last Friday, UVA hosted Merrimack transfer Jordan Minor, who ultimately ended up becoming the Cavaliers' first transfer portal commitment of the offseason six days later. Last weekend, Virginia also hosted five-star forward Jarin Stevenson, one of the top recruits in the class of 2024, for an official visit. Stevenson tweeted out a video on Thursday recapping his time at UVA and called the visit "amazing".

A 6'10", 200-pound power forward from Seaforth High School in Pittsboro, North Carolina, Stevenson was the first prospect in the recruiting class of 2024 to receive a scholarship offer from Virginia back in January of 2022. Since then, Stevenson has taken two unofficial visits to UVA and now this official visit over the weekend. Stevenson has also taken official visits to Georgetown and Missouri and unofficial visits to Duke and North Carolina, who is considered the frontrunner in his recruitment at this time.

This season's North Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year, Stevenson's list of offers includes Virginia, North Carolina, NC State, Wake Forest, Georgetown, and Missouri. 247Sports ranks Stevenson as the No. 12 overall recruit in the class of 2024, the No. 1 power forward in the country, and the No. 2 player in the state of North Carolina. Stevenson would be the highest-rated recruit to commit to Virginia in this modern era of recruiting tracking.

UNC will be tough to beat out for the commitment of the North Carolina native, but there seems to be a considerable amount of mutual interest between Stevenson and the Cavaliers. There's an additional layer of intrigue that could work in Virginia's favor and that's the possibility that Stevenson may reclassify into the recruiting class of 2023. Given UVA's current lack of roster depth in the front court, there could be a scenario in which the potential to play a key role early in his career could draw Jarin Stevenson to join Elijah Gertrude and Blake Buchanan in Virginia's 2023 recruiting class.

Whether he reclassifies to 2023 or stays in 2024, Jarin Stevenson will be at the top of Virginia's priority list on the high school basketball recruiting trail.
