Virginia Reinforces Secondary With Robert Morris Transfer CB Jermarian Jackson

UVA lands another transfer portal commitment from Jermarian "Jam" Jackson, the Co-Defensive Freshman of the Year in his conference

For the second time in as many days, the Cavaliers landed a key commitment in the transfer portal. Jermarian "Jam" Jackson, a cornerback from Robert Morris, announced his commitment to Virginia on Saturday with three years of eligibility remaining.

A 6'2", 175-pound defensive back from Plant City, Florida, Jackson spent the last two years at Robert Morris, but redshirted the 2022 season as he played in only four games. In his first season as a full-time starter this fall, Jackson burst onto the scene as one of the top cornerbacks at the FCS level. Jackson tallied 40 total tackles, 30 of them solo stops, 1.5 tackles for loss, five passes defended, and a forced fumble in 11 games in 2023.

At the end of the year, Jackson was named the Co-Defensive Freshman of the Year in the Big South-OVC Football Association and was selected a Third-Team FCS Freshman All-American by Phil Steele. Jackson garnered a handful of offers in the transfer portal and initially committed to Akron before taking a visit to UVA this weekend and flipping to Virginia on Saturday. His commitment announcement came less than 24 hours after the Cavaliers got a transfer commitment from New Mexico State quarterback Gavin Frakes

Jermarian Jackson is the ninth transfer to commit to Virginia this offseason, joining Notre Dame wide receiver Chris Tyree, Akron linebacker Corey Thomas Jr., Harvard tight end Tyler Neville, Penn defensive back Kendren Smith, UCF offensive lineman Drake Metcalf, North Carolina wide receiver Andre Greene Jr., Kent State wide receiver Trell Harris, and New Mexico State quarterback Gavin Frakes.
