Philadelphia Eagles Sign Former UVA Receiver Olamide Zaccheaus

After spending the first four years of his professional football career with the Atlanta Falcons, former Virginia wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus has found a new home in the NFL. Zaccheaus has signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, as reported by his agency on Wednesday afternoon.

The Eagles, who are coming off of a trip to the Super Bowl, have one of the top wide receiver duos in the NFL in A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, but are looking for more consistent production from the rest of their receiving corps. Quez Watkins occupied the third receiver spot last season and Zaccheaus will be expected to compete with Watkins for that WR3 position.

The signing is somewhat of a homecoming for Zaccheaus, who grew up in New Jersey and went to high school at St. Joseph's Preparatory School in Philadelphia before beginning his collegiate career at the University of Virginia.

Zaccheaus appeared in 50 games over his career at Virginia and is still the program's all-time record holder for most career receptions with 250, a number that also ranks sixth in ACC history. His 2,978 career receiving yards are second only to Billy McMullen in UVA history. Zaccheaus became only the third Cavalier ever to break the 1,000-yard receiving mark in a single season with 1,058 yards in 2018, the same season that he broke his own single-season record with 93 receptions. He garnered Second-Team All-ACC honors in 2017, was a First-Team All-ACC selection in 2018, and finished his career as the Most Valuable Player of the 2018 Belk Bowl, recording 12 receptions for 100 yards and three touchdowns in his final game as a Wahoo.

Zaccheaus went undrafted in 2019, but signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent and made the 53-man roster in training camp. He appeared in 55 games over the last four years with the Falcons and played in all 17 games in each of the last two seasons. Zaccheaus started 13 games in 2022 and averaged career-highs across the board with 40 receptions on 61 targets for 533 yards and three touchdowns. Per Pro Football Focus, Zaccheaus had just one drop on 61 targets last season.

After becoming one of the Falcons' top receivers in his final season in Atlanta, Olamide Zaccheaus will look to help one of the NFL's best teams make another run at the Super Bowl next year as he joins the Philadelphia Eagles.
