Washington Lands Rutgers Transfer Guard Paul Mulcahy

In this story:
Washington Husky basketball has found a way to land yet another impact transfer. This time, Mike Hopkins and his staff have earned a commitment from former Rutgers guard Paul Mulcahy. Listed at 6-foot-6 and 186 pounds, Mulcahy is ranked as a four-star transfer by 247 Sports.
The now senior guard averaged 8.3 points per game, with 4.9 assists and 3.6 rebounds per contest. He's a perfect fit on the wing in Washington's system and, with all of the other assets the Huskies have brought in over the offseason, he looks like the missing piece in the coaching staff's plans.

On the floor, Mulcahy is an excellent ball-handler, which Washington has dearly missed over the last few seasons. He can finish with either hand around the rim and can score from all three levels of the floor while also converting tough shots on a routine basis.
His 4.9 assists would have been the highest on the team last season between Mulcahy and Kentucky transfer and new point guard Savhir Wheeler, and the Huskies have emphasized quality passing. With Wheeler and Mulcahy as the primary ball-handlers, not only should the team's assist numbers skyrocket, but the turnovers should plummet at the same time.
Defensively, he's a perfect fit for Hopkins' zone. He averaged 1.5 steals per game during his senior season and plays with a lot of energy and aggression. His intelligence and timing when it comes to disrupting passing lanes might remind some Husky fans of Matisse Thybulle.
In what looks to be the final move of the offseason, this is a big win for the Husky staff. Mulcahy picked Washington over Notre Dame and Xavier and could be just what the Huskies need to turn the program around after missing the NCAA Tournament for four straight seasons.

I've followed the Huskies for my entire life, and to be in a position where I get to cover them full-time is nothing short of an honor. After graduating from Lasell University in 2019, I moved to Seattle to pursue my dream of working in sports media. While writing for the Husky Haul, I also covered local sports for the Everett Daily Herald before the COVID-19 pandemic. After being hired by Realdawg.com in February of 2021, I also transitioned into doing a lot of entertainment writing, as I work on a variety of magazines as a contributing writer for Centennial Media, and have also contributed to Emmy Magazine, as well as Walt Disney Television Studios.
