Former Huskies Displayed Their Athleticism at the 2023 Pro Day

With only two combine invites among them, eight of 10 Washington athletes had something to prove

Since all of Washington's draft-eligible players decided to return to school for the 2023 season, the team's annual pro day was completely made up of graduating seniors. Of the 10 who participated, NFL scouts had only gotten a look at offensive linemen Henry Bainivalu and Jaxson Kirkland, who participated in the Shrine Bowl and the NFL Combine.

One of the more notable snubs from the combine was edge rusher Jeremiah Martin. After recording 8.5 sacks and being named to the All-Pac-12 First Team in 2022, Martin didn't receive an invitation to the combine, but performed very well for his size.

His unofficial 4.65 is the same time Wisconsin edge rusher (and former Washington target) Nick Herbig hit at the combine, however Martin did it at 267 pounds, compared to Herbig, who ran at 240. Martin also managed to record a 35.5-inch vertical jump, which would have tied him for seventh at his position at the combine.

Athletically, the biggest winner of the day was cornerback Jordan Perryman. After transferring in from UC Davis, where he was named an FCS All-American, Perryman struggled mightily during his only season in the Pac-12, as he was hampered by a slew of injuries.

On Wednesday, he proved that he has all the tools necessary to succeed at the NFL level. He kicked off the day with a 37.5-inch vertical jump, the highest mark at the pro day, showcasing his explosiveness, and followed it up with a 4.39 unofficial 40-yard dash time.

Notes and observations

While it didn't appear there wasn't a scout from every team present on Wednesday, the Cincinnati Bengals representative seemed incredibly interested in the offensive linemen. He didn't take his eyes off Corey Luciano or Jaxson Kirkland as they went through their drills.

Henry Bainivalu was present, but did not participate in any drills or testing.

The Washington Commanders seemed to take an interest in both Martin and linebacker Cam Bright while they were running their 40's.

While he didn't play much during his one year at Washington, linebacker Kris Moll displayed above-average testing, and should earn himself a camp invitation as an undrafted free agent.

Running back Wayne Taulapapa ran a 4.51u 40-yard dash, and with the production that he displayed in 2022, he should also find himself
