Three Position Battles To Watch At Fall Camp

In this story:
Washington's fall camp starts on August 2 and the majority of positions on the depth chart are already set. But there are still a few things that need to be decided before the Huskies take the field on September 2 to take on the Boise State Broncos.
Right guard
With All Pac-12 second-team tackle Troy Fautanu and Freshman All-America tackle Roger Rosengarten returning, the Huskies have some questions that need to be answered in the middle of the offensive line. Two of the three open positions seem to have solutions though, beginning with Nate Kalepo, who started three games at left guard in 2022, returning to that position.
Matteo Mele will take over at center, which leaves only right guard open, with three players vying for the spot. Julius Buelow, Gaard Memmelaar and Geirean Hatchett are competing for the job and everyone could have an answer on who will win the starting job by the middle of camp.
Inside linebacker
Edefuan Ulofoshio already has one spot locked down, but who's going to be his running mate? While it seems like the incumbant, Alphonzo Tuputala has a sizable lead over USC transfer Ralen Goforth, anything can happen.
It feels like Tuputala will hang on to the starting job while Goforth and Carson Bruener will man the second unit, but with only one year of eligibility remaining, Goforth will do everything in his power to try and earn a starting spot.
Cornerback
Some people have had questions about Oklahoma State transfer Jabbar Muhammad's size on the outside, but he has enough tape proving that he can hold his own in the Husky defense. The biggest question is who will line up on the other side of the field?
Jaivion Green, Thaddeus Dixon, and Elijah Jackson are all pushing to start across from Muhammad. Jackson has the most experience in the group, but Dixon should be considered the favorite to start at this point in time. The Long Beach City College transfer brings a different attitude to the Husky secondary, which could just be the extra boost the unit needs.

I've followed the Huskies for my entire life, and to be in a position where I get to cover them full-time is nothing short of an honor. After graduating from Lasell University in 2019, I moved to Seattle to pursue my dream of working in sports media. While writing for the Husky Haul, I also covered local sports for the Everett Daily Herald before the COVID-19 pandemic. After being hired by Realdawg.com in February of 2021, I also transitioned into doing a lot of entertainment writing, as I work on a variety of magazines as a contributing writer for Centennial Media, and have also contributed to Emmy Magazine, as well as Walt Disney Television Studios.
