WVU Baseball Receives Massive News

Right-handed pitcher Chase Meyer is considered to be the top commit in West Virginia's recruiting class. Tuesday morning he revealed that he will indeed follow through with his commitment to WVU.

Meyer gained a lot of interest from MLB teams and at one point, was considered to be a top five round pick. But after not hearing his name called through the first two days (ten rounds) of the draft, Meyer made the decision to forgo the pro route out of high school.
For a kid that's already touching the mid 90s on his fastball as a senior in high school, this is a good move for him. He can continue to work on his command which is really the only area of concern, in my eyes. Spending three years in that WVU starting rotation should improve Meyer's stock and could quite possibly play his way into being a top 100 pick.
Meyer has a hard biting slider to go with his overpowering fastball, so if he can develop a third pitch (change-up), he'll mow through hitters similar to how Alek Manoah did when he toed the rubber in Morgantown. The Lincolnton, North Carolina native has the potential to be a top of the rotation piece for Randy Mazey as a true freshman.
Arkansas, Coastal Carolina, Louisville, Miami, Ole Miss, UC Irvine, and several others were in on Meyer prior to his pledge to WVU. Despite announcing his decision to head to West Virginia, a team could still draft him in the remaining ten rounds today. He would have until August 1st to make an official decision.
