Former WVU Pitcher Ben Hampton Transfers to Another Big 12 School

West Virginia took a hit from the transfer portal earlier this month as starting pitcher Ben Hampton announced his departure. Tuesday night, he committed to TCU, which also is the home of former Mountaineer outfielder Austin Davis.
Hampton was West Virginia's Friday night starter for the entire season leading up to the final regular season series against Texas. Carson Estridge earned the start for game one of that series and Blaine Traxel got the ball in game two. Mazey turned to Hampton in game three but had an extremely brief outing giving up four runs on three hits and two walks in just 0.1 innings of work.
Hampton bounced back with a much better outing in the elimination game of the Big 12 tournament against Oklahoma State, giving up zero earned runs through six innings. However, things didn't go that well for him in the NCAA Tournament as he allowed four runs on seven hits in just three innings against Ball State.
The junior finished the season with a 5-3 record and an ERA of 4.45 in 16 starts.
