JJ Wetherholt Named Finalist for Dick Howser Trophy

After not being named a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award, West Virginia second baseman JJ Wetherholt has been named a finalist for the 36th Dick Howser Trophy.
Depending on who you ask, the Howser Trophy is the Heisman of college baseball. Some believe it's the Golden Spikes but either way, it's one heck of an honor as he's just the second player in WVU program history to be nominated, joining pitcher Alek Manoah in 2019.
Wetherholt led the nation in batting average (.449), was tied for 3rd in hits (101), 9th in total bases (177), 10th in steals (36), 10th in slugging (.787), and 12th in OBP (.517), and was named Big 12 Player of the Year.
Other finalists for the trophy include P/1B Jac Caglianone (Florida), OF Dylan Crews (LSU), P Rhett Lowder (Wake Forest), and P Paul Skenes (LSU).
The winner of the Dick Howser Trophy will be announced next Thursday, June 15th, on MLB Network at 10:00 AM EST.
