Report: Wetherholt to Miss Series vs. Charlotte

According to Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball.com, West Virginia shortstop JJ Wetherholt will miss this weekend's series against the Charlotte 49ers with a Grade 1 hamstring strain.

The good news is the Mountaineers don't expect the injury to be a long-term issue but will "take it slow" in his return to action.

In four games this season, Wetherholt is 4-of-13 (.308) with three stolen bases. Last season, Wetherholt won the Big 12 Conference Player of the Year award after leading the nation in batting average (.449) to go along with 16 home runs, 60 RBI, and 36 stolen bases.

Junior Brodie Kresser is expected to fill in as the team's shortstop until Wetherholt returns. The first game of the four-game set with Charlotte is slated to begin Friday at 4 p.m. EST.
