Fresh off of a Big 12 Conference championship, West Virginia will enter the 2024 season with a chip on its shoulder, believe it or not. In D1 Baseball's preseason top 25 rankings, the Mountaineers are not featured. Four Big 12 foes, however, are ranked - TCU, Texas, Texas Tech, and Kansas State.

West Virginia has a load of question marks with its pitching staff, but does return one of the nation's top hitters, JJ Wetherholt. Last season, Wetherholt led the country in batting average (.449) while hitting 16 homers and driving in 60 runs.

Also worth noting, WVU head coach Randy Mazey is entering the final season at the helm before moving into a senior advisor role for the 2025 and 2026 seasons, passing the baton to Steve Sabins. Mazey has guided the Mountaineers to the NCAA Tournament three times in his tenure but has yet to make it out of the regional round.
