WVU Loses Top Relief Pitcher to the Portal

Right-handed relief pitcher Noah Short became the seventh player to hit the transfer portal this offseason for West Virginia, also becoming the second big departure from the pitching staff joining Friday night starter Ben Hampton.
Short was a reliable go-to option out of the pen for skipper Randy Mazey over the past three seasons, appearing in a program-record 76 games. He pitched to the tune of a 3.34 career ERA across 72.2 innings, striking out 89 and walking just 33.
The Scott Depot, WV native was elite down the stretch, not allowing a single earned run over his final eight appearances of the season. There were four games in that stretch where Mazey would turn to Short to just come in and get one out and he got the job done to either limit the damage or hold the opponent from plating any runs.
Short will have one year of eligibility remaining but can also be selected in the 2023 MLB First-Year Player Draft next month, so he will have options.
West Virginia has now lost its top starting pitcher and relief pitcher to the portal.
