WVU Not Projected to Host Regional Following Sweep by Texas

Randy Mazey's squad had a chance to sit atop the Big 12 Conference by themselves with just a single win over the Texas Longhorns in the regular season series finale. Unfortunately for the Old Gold and Blue, they dropped all three games, resulting in a three-way tie for a share of the regular season conference title.
West Virginia didn't just lose all three games, they weren't competitive, losing the series by a combined score of 29-9. Due to the fashion in which they lost, the Mountaineers went from a No. 7 national seed and in a great position to host a super regional should they advance in the NCAA Tournament, to all the way out of regional hosting.
In D1Baseball's latest tournament projection, they have the Mountaineers as a No. 2 seed playing in Charlottesville, Virginia. Here is what that regional at UVA would look like.
1. Virginia vs. 4. Pennsylvania
2. West Virginia vs. 3. Iowa
That being said, all hope for hosting a regional isn't completely lost. With a strong week at the Big 12 Conference tournament in Arlington, WVU can easily play its way back into the top 16. The first step to doing so begins Wednesday night when they take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders at 8:30 p.m. EST at Globe Life Field.
