Drake Transfer Kevin Overton Hears from West Virginia, Several Others

Darian DeVries makes a call to a familiar face.

West Virginia is going to live in the transfer portal this offseason with new head coach Darian DeVries aiming to structure the roster in his vision for not only 2024-25, but with the future in mind as well.

With several question marks surrounding players currently on the roster in addition to the depth issues the team had this past season, we'll likely see DeVries add several players over the next month or so.

Some of those portal players that he brings in may have a direct tie to him, playing for him at Drake. Since he took the WVU job, a handful of Bulldogs have entered and he's already been in touch with some of those guys about following him to Morgantown.

One of those players is freshman guard Kevin Overton, who averaged 11.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game while shooting 44% from the field and 34% from three-point range. He started all 35 games for the Bulldogs and was named to the Missouri Valley Conference's All-Freshman team.

According to Jamie Shaw of On3 Sports, Overton has also heard from Cal, Colorado State, Kansas State, LSU, Memphis, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, and a few others.

He will have three years of eligibility remaining.
