WVU Cracks Top 8 for No. 30 Player in the 2027 Recruiting Class

In this story:
West Virginia is making serious progress in the 2027 recruiting class and doing so with some of the top recruits in the country. Recently, four-star guard Micah Gordon of Plainfield, New Jersey, released his top eight schools, and the Mountaineers made the cut.
Others who are in the battle are Auburn, Creighton, Providence, Tennessee, UCLA, UConn, and VCU.
Teams that offered Gordon but are on the outside looking in are Arizona State, Georgetown, Maryland, Mississippi State, North Carolina State, Oklahoma State, Rutgers, Seton Hall, South Florida, TCU, Virginia Tech, and Villanova.
He will make visits to each school and has his trip to Morgantown set for September 22nd-24th, which is a few days ahead of the football team's home game against Oklahoma State, so he won't get to experience a game this time around. He was on campus last year for the Backyard Brawl (football), which was an amazing atmosphere and one that would be hard to top anyway.
According to ESPN, Gordon is the 30th-best player in the 2027 class and the 8th-best point guard.
Gordon participated in the Nike EYBL Session II back in the spring and was named a 1st-team All-Circuit selection after averaging 18 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.5 steals per contest (four games).
The quick scouting report on Micah Gordon

Zero fear. That's the first thing I noticed watching his tape. Although he is an undersized guard, checking in at 5'10", 180 lbs, he loves to put the ball on the floor and get downhill.
A great combination of physicality and handle allows him to navigate through the trees in the painted area, and he finishes through contact consistently. As a matter of fact, I think he prefers to put pressure on the rim rather than put up a jumper. It's about 90% of every one of his highlight reels. Don't worry, though. He can shoot the ball, and it's a pretty smooth form, too.
He has been shooting roughly 33% from beyond the arc, but by the time he gets to college and has more talent around him, I think we'll eventually end up seeing him shoot in the mid 30s. If he's able to do that while still effectively penetrating the paint, he's going to be one of the most dynamic guards in all of college basketball.
Ross Hodge is building one heck of a young core at West Virginia, and if he's able to land Gordon, the Mountaineers are going to have an extremely talented backcourt, assuming Miles Sadler stays for two years.
