Former Badgers OL Commits To Cyclones

Former Wisconsin Badgers offensive lineman Dylan Barrett will seek to continue his career at Iowa State.

Former Wisconsin Badgers offensive lineman Dylan Barrett has decided to transfer to Iowa State, per CycloneFanatic.com.

Barrett, a 6-foot-5, 322-pound lineman, also announced his decision on social media.

He was the second former Badgers offensive lineman to announce his transfer destination. Nolan Rucci — who only entered the transfer portal on Thursday — announced his move to Penn State via social media.

Barrett was at Wisconsin for four seasons after he signed with the Badgers in the Class of 2020 out of East High School in St. Charles, Ill. He was considered a three-star recruit at the time.

After redshirting in 2020, he appeared in three games in 2021 and then played nine games on special teams in 2022.

Barrett played in one game last season.

He joins the Cyclones with one year of eligibility remaining, along with a potential COVID waiver.

He told Cyclone Fanatic that the Cyclones reached out to him about two weeks ago.

“The opportunity arose kind of out of the blue in a way,” Barrett said. “It was exactly what I was looking for going into the portal – a great place to get my education and also a great opportunity to get on the field and be a contributor right away.”

Iowa State is coming off a 7-6 season with a 6-3 record in Big 12 play that resulted in a trip to the Liberty Bowl, where the Cyclones lost to Memphis, 36-26.

The Cyclones are one of a host of contenders in what should be a competitive conference in 2024, with the departures of Oklahoma and Texas to the SEC and four new members from the Pac-12 in Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah.

Wisconsin’s other players in the portal are linebacker Kaden Johnson, quarterback Myles Burkett, wide receivers Chimere Dike and Skyler Bell, defensive ends Rodas Johnson and Darian Varner, and linebackers Jordan Turner and Jordan Mayer.

Meanwhile, 10 players have committed to join the Badgers in 2024, including linebackers Jaheim Thomas (Arkansas), Leon Lowery (Syracuse), Jahsian Galvin (Northern Iowa), Sebastian Cheeks (North Carolina) and John Pius (William & Mary), along with running back Tawee Walker (Oklahoma), Tyrell Henry (Michigan State), Jackson McGowan (LSU), quarterback Tyler Van Dyke (Miami FL)) and long snapper Cayson Pfeiffer (Cincinnati).
