Is Apex Legends Crossplay or Cross-Progression Enabled?

Apex Legends is one of the most popular battle royale video games and it’s available on PC, Xbox, PlayStation and the Nintendo Switch. With so many players and platforms, lots of newcomers may be asking if Apex Legends is crossplay compatible so they can play with their friends. The short answer is yes, Apex Legends does support crossplay on Playstation, Xbox, Switch, and PC.

Is Apex Legends Crossplay Compatible?

In order to play with your friends in Apex Legends using crossplay, you’ll have to make sure the crossplay feature is enabled and add them to your friends list. Crossplay should be enabled by default, but it can be turned off on the PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo Switch. To do so, or check to make sure it’s on follow these steps.

1. Go to the lobby.
2. Click the cogwheel in the bottom right corner of the screen, the game menu.
3. Click on your settings.
4. Scroll down until you see Cross Platform Play.
5. Make sure it is enabled for or disabled, depending on if you want to play with people on other platforms or not.

With crossplay enabled you’ll be able to play with players and friends who use The EA app, Steam, PlayStation, Xbox or the Nintendo Switch. If you’re playing on PC there is currently no way to disable crossplay.

How to add friends to Apex Legends using Crossplay

Once you’ve confirmed that crossplay is enabled you can start sending and receiving friend invites from other players. Just follow these three steps:

1. Go to the friends menu.
2. Click on the find friend button.
3. Type in their EA Public ID. If you go to your privacy settings you can also change how other players search for you by allowing them to search based on your email address, PSN Online ID, Xbox Live Gamertag or Nintendo Nickname, depending on what platform you’re using.

Once you’ve accepted your friend's request you can see them in the friends menu when they’re online, including what platform they’re playing on.

Does Apex Legends Have Cross-Progression?

Here is where things get a bit disappointing for players. Even though you can play cross-platform on Apex Legends, cross-progression is not currently available. The only exception to this is that if you play on Steam or The EA app, both of which are PC platforms, your progression such as levels, skins and battle pass will carry over from one another.

So if you’re playing on PlayStation 4 or 5 and you decide to grab Apex Legends on Steam, you’ll have to start all over with an account at level 1 with none of your cosmetics. This won’t affect your progression on the PlayStation 4 or 5.

Apex Legends developers at Respawn Entertainment have said that they are working on and would like to bring cross-progression to the game, but so far there’s been no word on when that will happen.
