Riot Games teams up with NewJeans for Worlds 2023 anthem 'GODS'

Riot Games has announced the anthem for the 2023 League of Legends World Championship. On ‘GODS’, K-pop icons NewJeans have teamed up with Riot Games principal composer Sebastien Najand and Mako. The track will be released on October 3rd at 10 p.m. PT.

For the past 10 years, Riot Games has collaborated with musical artists for a theme song in commemoration of Worlds. The first iteration was ‘Warriors’ by Imagine Dragons – a band with multiple members who play League of Legends – for Worlds 2014 in South Korea, which was commemorated with a live performance featuring South Korean percussionists at Sangam Stadium before the grand finals of the event.

Mako, born Alex Seaver, has collaborated with Riot Games on multiple tracks for hit Netflix animated series Arcane, as well as ‘Awaken’, Worlds 2018 anthem ‘RISE’, and Worlds 2015 anthem ‘Legends Never Die’, the latter of which was created with producer Logan Light, who left Mako in 2017.

“The Worlds Anthem is the rallying cry for our community every year, and we’re so excited to partner with NewJeans to deliver this incredible moment,” said Carrie Dunn, Global Head of Creative, Esports at Riot Games. “Between Worlds taking place in Korea and NewJeans’ meteoric rise, this partnership felt fated as a true cultural celebration. ‘GODS’ juxtaposes epic and intense production elements with NewJeans’ beautiful and powerful vocals – conveying both the grind and the glory that awaits our players at Worlds.”
