Asante Samuel Calls Out Cam Newton For Comments on 49ers QB Brock Purdy

He has a lot to say about Newton's words.

Former NFL quarterback Cam Newton has made headlines over the last few months for his comments regarding San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.

Newton has gone on the record calling Purdy a "game manager," and also said he's the 10th-best player on the 49ers.

These comments haven't sat well with a lot of people, including four-time Pro Bowler and two-time Super Bowl champion cornerback Asante Samuel Sr.

The 11-year veteran had a lot of things to say about Newton on the Bleav Network's Say What Needs to Be Said podcast.

"He is hating on a winner. Point blank period. Point blank period. And hear the legend himself. Joe Montana said it best. He said it best. The legend himself. This is what he said and I quote, 'I learned early in my career in offense. It's not about me. It's about getting the ball to the people who knew what to do with the ball because I'm just the mailman. The football doesn't belong to me. I want to get the ball to somebody who knows how to run and knows how to kick.'"

Samuel is using the greatest 49ers quarterback of all time, Joe Montana, to make Purdy's case. Although Purdy has tons of talent, Samuel knows that it's his job to get the ball to the right people.

Samuel also wanted to address the comments about Purdy being the 10th-best player on his team.

"I just don't understand how this is just a thing, you know what I mean? And on another point that Cam Newton tried to do, like you say, you keep backpedaling, trying to clarify. Let me be clear. Let me let me clear this up for Purdy. Purdy is not the 10th-best player on the team. He may be the 10th-best athlete on the team, but the best player on the team varies... Brock Purdy is a top-two, top-three player on the team."

While Newton continues to bash Purdy, the second-year quarterback is getting ready to play in the Super Bowl in his first full season as a starter. You don't get to the Super Bowl by being a sub-par player by any means.

Newton's comments might just be exactly what Samuel implies they are, "hating."
