Lynx legend Seimone Augustus named finalist for Naismith Hall of Fame

The Lynx forward could be the next piece of the team's dynasty to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame.

Minnesota Lynx forward Seimone Augustus was named a finalist for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, with the shortlist announced during the NBA's All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis.

Augustus was a key piece of the Lynx's dynasty that captured four WNBA championships (2011, 2013, 2015, 2017) during the 2010s. The No. 1 overall pick by Minnesota in the 2006 WNBA Draft, Augustus was an eight-time All-Star, a five-time All-WNBA Second Team selection and made the All-WNBA first team in 2012.

Augustus was also the MVP of the 2011 WNBA Finals a member of the league's 20th and 25th Anniversary Teams and a three-time Olympian, winning gold medals in the 2008 (Beijing), 2012 (London) and 2016 (Rio de Janerio) games.

If she is selected, Augustus would be the fourth member of the Lynx franchise to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame. 

Minnesota native and Golden Gophers alum Lindsay Whalen was enshrined in 2022. Katie Smith, who spent the first six years of her career with the Lynx before playing for the Detroit Shock, Washington Mystics, Seattle Storm and New York Liberty was enshrined in 2018.

Current Lynx head coach and general manager Cheryl Reeve is also in the Hall of Fame after being selected in 2023.

Augustus and former Kansas coach Marian Washington are one of two women's committee finalists on this year's ballot. Former Minnesota Timberwolves guard Chauncey Billups is also among the North American Committee Finalists group, including Vince Carter, Michael Cooper, Walter Davis, Bo Ryan and Charles Smith.

Dick Barnett and Harley Redin are veteran's committee finalists, Michele Timms is an international committee finalist and Doug Collins, Herb Simon and Jerry West are contributors committee finalists.

This year's class will be announced at the NCAA Men's Final Four in Phoenix on Apr. 6.
