Georgia RB Trevor Etienne could face suspension after arrest

Georgia Bulldogs transfer running back Trevor Etienne could be subject to a suspension once the 2024 football season begins after he was arrested on a DUI charge over the weekend.

Under current Georgia school and athletic department policy, Etienne will miss at least 10 percent of the football season -- the equivalent of one game in the Bulldogs' 12-game schedule -- if he is found guilty of DUI.

Georgia opens the 2024 football season on Aug. 31 against Clemson.

In addition to DUI, Etienne was charged with reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, and affixing materials that reduce visibility of windows.

The DUI charge is classified as "less safe," which in the state of Georgia means he can be convicted even if his blood alcohol level is less than .08.

Head coach Kirby Smart said that part of the process in determining Etienne's future going forward is first allowing the legal process to run its course.

Etienne was driving at 80-90 mph in a 50 mph zone early Sunday morning, according to the Athens-Clarke Co. (Ga.) police department report.

The arresting officer said that Etienne admitted to drinking three beers "way earlier" that evening, but that his speech appeared slurred and he had poor balance.

Now, it's up to the legal process to play itself out, and from there, for Georgia to decide whether or not its star transfer tailback will miss time on the field this fall.
