Tennessee secured a major in-state recruiting commitment in the 2025 class as quarterback George MacIntyre confirmed his pledge to the Volunteers during a ceremony at Brentwood Academy near Nashville, Tenn. on Monday.

MacIntyre ranks as the No. 16 overall prospect and the No. 3 ranked quarterback in the 2025 college football recruiting class, according to a consensus from all four major national recruiting services. All name him a four-star prospect.

The quarterback picked Tennessee over other SEC finalists Alabama and LSU, and after the latter secured Bryce Underwood at the position, that appeared to leave the Vols and Crimson Tide in a race to sign MacIntyre, who visited both schools several times.

He was one of the first prospects new Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer and his staff re-offered after the retirement of head coach Nick Saban.

George MacIntyre scouting profile

The 6-foot-6 quarterback is a "tall signal caller with strong projectable tools as a passer and playmaker," according to On3 Sports.

MacIntyre boasts a "tight, compact throwing motion with little moving parts. The release is whippy quick. Flashes good arm strength, with the ability to flick passes out to the boundary and downfield."

MacIntyre's stats

Over two seasons at Brentwood, the quarterback threw for 5,570 yards and scored 44 touchdowns in the air against 16 interceptions.

Vols' talented QB room

Tennessee has scored important quarterback acquisitions recently, coming in as the second recruit at the position ranked in the top-three nationally in the last few cycles.

Nico Iamaleava signed with the Volunteers in 2023 as the second-ranked quarterback and overall prospect, and UT secured four-star signal caller Jake Merklinger, a top-15 prospect at the position after throwing 38 touchdowns as a senior.

Iamaleava is the clear favorite to start for Tennessee in 2024, but the rest of the depth chart is an open question going forward with Merklinger and MacIntyre in the mix.

Those two give the Vols very promising options to develop as Iamaleava takes the reins this season and beyond.
