Pac-12 contenders meet in Seattle over the weekend as the conference championship picture comes into clearer focus and with the College Football Playoff selection committee keeping a very close eye as No. 5 ranked, undefeated Washington returns home in a landmark clash against two-loss, No. 18 Utah on Saturday.

  • Huskies just outside the top four despite beating USC and staying perfect
  • Washington is No. 1 in passing, 4th in scoring, but 100th in rushing
  • Although it ran for over 300 yards against the Trojans a week ago
  • But the Utes present a tougher front, 9th in scoring defense nationally
  • Utah is 2-2 against ranked Pac-12 teams this season
  • Let's check in with the SP+ prediction model to get a picture of the game

Utah vs. Washington score prediction

The simulations favor the home team to stay undefeated this week.

SP+ predicts that Washington will hold off Utah by a projected score of 34 to 23 and win the game by a forecasted margin of 10.2 points overall.

The model gives the Huskies a 72 percent shot to win the game outright.

SP+ is a “tempo- and opponent-adjusted measure of college football efficiency” that attempts to predict game outcomes by measuring “the most sustainable and predictable aspects of football.”

How good is it this season? So far, the SP+ model is 262-271-13 (49.2%) in its picks against the spread.

Point spread

Washington is a 9.5 point favorite against Utah, according to the lines at SI Sportsbook, which set the total at 53.5 (-111) points for the game.

SI lists the moneyline odds for UW at -400 and for Utah at +280.

If you're using this projection to bet on the game, you should take...

  • Washington -9.5
  • Huskies on the ML at -400
  • Over 53.5 (-111)

Computer prediction

Other analytic tools also favor Washington to win the game outright.

That includes the College Football Power Index, a computer prediction model that uses data points from both teams to simulate games 20,000 times to pick winners.

The index forecasts that the Huskies will win the game in 69.1 percent of its simulations, or 13,820 of its total projections.

Utah wins out in the remaining 30.9 percent of sims, or 6,180 of predictions.

By taking the difference between each team's expected scoring margin, the computer predicts that Washington will beat Utah by 4.5 points, or by 5 if we round up, not enough to cover the line.
