The bombshell coaching change of the college football offseason took place recently when seven-time national champion Nick Saban retired from Alabama, and the school followed by hiring Kalen DeBoer from Washington as his replacement.

After taking the job at Alabama, DeBoer assembled his Washington team and broke the news, and now a leak from that team meeting is going viral.

"I hope that you guys can just understand that some day, I don't expect you to understand right now, and if you do, I appreciate it, but I hope that you can understand it at some point," DeBoer told his players.

He added: "The last thing I'll say is that great programs are bigger than any one person. It's bigger than any one player. It's bigger than any coach."

Now, DeBoer takes his philosophy to the program that has dominated college football in the 21st century and leaves the highest possible standard for excellence.

Alabama thinks he's the man for the job, and his record bodes well for him. DeBoer is a remarkable 104-12 in his career as a head coach.

  • Sioux Falls: 67-3
  • Fresno State: 12-6
  • Washington: 25-3

Now he embarks on the biggest coaching transition arguably in college football history.
