Dwayne Haskins' wife called police on morning of his death, details emerge

Former Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins was hit and killed by a dump truck on a highway in Florida earlier this month. Now we have a better idea of some of the circumstances around the 24-year-old's death.
More details surfaced this week in the form of a 911 call made by Haskins' wife, Kalabrya, according to TMZ.
She called first responders from Pittsburgh shortly after her husband told her he ran out of gas and was walking around to find some.
Kalabrya said that Haskins was going to call her back once he found gas for his car, but that she never received any response.
"I kept calling"
"I kept calling and kept calling," Haskins' widow told the 911 operator.
"He wasn't answering. Eventually, after 10 minutes of calling the phone, eventually it cut off. It's not working now. I had his location. I just want somebody to go in the area and see if his car is there and if he's okay and if anything happened to him."
The 911 operator warned Kalabrya that there was a report of an incident on the highway near where Haskins was. But the person could not confirm if it involved her husband or not. Later, reports confirmed that Haskins had died at the scene.
Tributes poured in
News of the quarterback's death resulted in an outpouring of condolences, support, and mourning from former and current teammates, the Ohio State football community, and many current NFL players.
Ohio State honored Haskins at its spring football game, marking his initials on players' helmets and on the field. The school held a moment of silence before the game and presented a video tribute at halftime.
An Ohio State legend
Haskins started just one season at Ohio State, but it was one to remember: in 2018, he set a single-season OSU and Big Ten record with 50 passing touchdowns, emerging as a Heisman Trophy finalist and leading the Buckeyes to a 13-1 mark and a Rose Bowl victory over No. 9 Washington.
Haskins parlayed that success into a No. 15 overall NFL Draft pick by the then-Washington Redskins. He spent two seasons with that organization before landing with the Pittsburgh Steelers and was training with teammates at the time of his death.
