South Carolina football: Spencer Rattler's first throw at Gamecocks spring camp

South Carolina opened up spring football practice on Tuesday with new quarterback Spencer Rattler under center, and he didn't waste any time making himself known.
Rattler rolled out on his first rep from behind center and connected with Jaheim Bell in a red zone drill for a touchdown.

Rattler's addition should be a boost for a South Carolina offense that placed second-worst in the SEC a year ago, both in total production and scoring per game.
A former 5-star prospect, Rattler made headlines this offseason when he transferred from Oklahoma, where he started 2021 as starter before getting benched in favor of Caleb Williams, to South Carolina, along with former Sooners tight end Austin Stogner.
The quarterback led the Big 12 a year ago with 47 passes of 20-plus yards, a number that also ranked No. 9 among all quarterbacks nationally.
Rattler went 214 of 317 passing in 2020, completing 67.5 percent of his pass attempts, for 3,031 yards, scoring 28 TDs and throwing seven interceptions. In a shortened 2021 effort, Rattler was a 75% passer with 1,483 yards, 11 scores, and five picks.
Rattler is a career 70.1 percent passer and lands in a conference that had just four signal callers surpass 70% in a season in the last decade.
