Here's What Trevor Story Had to Say About His Shoulder Injury on Friday Night

The Boston Red Sox beat the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night to win their fifth straight game, but it was bittersweet as Trevor Story is headed for an MRI on his injured left shoulder.

The Boston Red Sox beat the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night to run their impressive winning streak to five games. With the win, Boston is now 6-2 on the season and is certainly exceeding projections that have them finishing last in the American League East.

However, the win was bittersweet as the team now waits for injury news on shortstop Trevor Story. Story, who missed most of last season with elbow surgery, worked hard to get back and was hoping for a major bounceback season. He injured his shoulder in the fourth inning while diving for a ball off the bat of Mike Trout.

After the game, Jahmai Webster of NESN provided an udpate on social media:

Trevor Story says the weight of his body on the dive fell on his shoulder. Told us it was pretty painful. He’s unsure if it popped out of place because everything happened quickly. He is set for imaging tomorrow and didn’t want to get into a premature diagnosis.

Story will have an MRI done on Saturday and after the game, he didn't want to speculate on an official diagnosis.

You can watch his comments below, courtesy of NESN:

"Did something to the shoulder there. Pretty Painful. We didn't get images yet. So, we'll have that tomorrow."

Story signed a six-year deal with the Red Sox before the 2022 season and hasn't been able to stay healthy enough in Boston to live up to the $140 million deal. He played just 94 games in 2022 and 43 in 2023. He's hitting .226 in the early going with four RBI. He's also been a major part of the Sox' resurgent defense this year.

If he needs to miss any time, Pablo Reyes and Vaughn Grissom are likely fill-in candidates.
