Arizona Diamondbacks' Rookie Dominates and Does Something Never Done Before in Game 3 of NLCS

The Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 3 of the NLCS to move the series to 2-1 Philly. In the win, the story was Diamondbacks rookie Brandon Pfaadt, who made history on the mound.

The Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday in Game 3 of the NLCS 2-1 thanks to Ketel Marte's walk-off single.

With the win, the D'Backs now trail the Phillies 2-1 in the best-of-seven series. Arizona is seeking a trip to the World Series for the first time since 2001. That is also the the year of their only title.

While Marte's walk-off will get deserved attention, it should also be remembered just how good that rookie Brandon Pfaadt was on the mound for Arizona.

The right-hander carved through the Phillies lineup, going 5.2 scoreless innings. He allowed just two hits, walked none and struck out nine.

When he was replaced in the game, several fans and reporters took to social media to express their dismay at the situation. He had only thrown 70 pitches with two outs in the sixth, but with the Phillies top of the order coming up, he was taken out.

Pfaadt did make some unique baseball history though with his dominance.

Per ESPN Stats & Info:

Brandon Pfaadt is 1st pitcher in MLB history to have 0 runs and 0 walks in consecutive postseason starts.

He has yet to record a win in these playoffs but he does have an ERA of 2.13. He's struck out 15 batters in 12.2 innings.

It's a remarkable performance given that Pfaadt struggled this year - his first in the big leagues. He went just 3-9 in the regular season with a 5.72 ERA.

Game 4 of the series will be played on Friday night at 8:07 p.m. ET.
