D'Backs Rookie Shines in Historic Fashion as Team Gets to World Series For First Time Since '01

As the Arizona Diamondbacks punched their ticket to the World Series on Tuesday night, Corbin Carroll rose to the occasion in a big way in Game 7 of the NLCS.

The Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night 4-2 to clinch their first trip to the World Series since 2001.

The thrilling NLCS Game 7 win was driven by several people, including rookie Corbin Carroll, who stepped up in historic fashion when his team needed him most.

Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

at 23 years & 64 days old, Corbin Carroll became the 2nd-youngest player in postseason history with 3+ hits & 2+ SB in a game, older than only:

1908 WS G3 Ty Cobb: 21 y, 299 d

he’s the 2nd player with 3+ hits & 2+ SB in a winner-take-all game, joining 2021 NLWCG Tommy Edman

Any time you stand alongside Ty Cobb in an offensive discussion, you've done something impressive, and Carroll certainly did. He went 3-for-4 in all in Game 7 with two RBI, two runs scored and the two steals.

It had been a tough postseason for Carroll, who is the presumptive favorite for National League Rookie of the Year, but now he's hitting .295 these playoffs with two homers, six RBI and four steals.

Over the course of the regular season, Carroll proved to be one of the most dynamic players in all of baseball. He hit .285 this season with 25 homers and 76 RBI. He stole a whopping 54 bases.

The Diamondbacks will be off on Wednesday and Thursday before starting the World Series with the Texas Rangers, who advanced out of the American League.

First pitch on Friday is set for 8:03 p.m. ET.
