The Atlanta Braves aren't just making baseball history, they are obliterating it.

Per @OptaSTATS on social media:

Tonight is the 101st consecutive game the @Braves have either hit a home run or stolen a base (or both).

That's 44 games longer than any other streak in the majors in the modern era (next longest: 57 by the 2017 Rangers).

Ronald Acuna Jr., one of the main contenders for the National League MVP, led off the game on Thursday with a solo home run against the St. Louis Cardinals, extending the record.

It's this kind of power and this kind of speed that has the Braves in the drivers' seat in the National League. Entering play on Thursday, they have an MLB-high 90 wins and are the favorite to win the National League pennant for the second time in three years.

Acuna now has 33 home runs on the season and is hitting .331 as of this posting. He's the first member of the 30-home run and 60-stolen base club, which he accomplished recently.

After finishing up the series with the Cardinals, the Braves will begin a new series on Friday against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

First pitch from Truist Park on Friday is set for 7:20 p.m. ET as Pirates ace Mitch Keller is opposed by Braves rookie Bryce Elder.

Keller was an All-Star this season for Pittsburgh and is currently 11-8 with a 3.93 ERA. Elder is 11-4 with a 3.42 ERA.

Pittsburgh is currently 65-75 on the season and is trying to avoid a last place finish in the National League Central.
