In this story:

Wednesday was another history-making night for Atlanta Braves superstar Ronald Acuna Jr., who stole his 70th base of the season.

The stolen base made him the first player in baseball history to have 40 home runs and 70 stolen bases in a season, but it also made him the first player in the last 15 years of National League history to have 70 stolen bases in a year.

Per @StatsCentre on social media:

70- Acuna Jr. (2023)

70- Scott Podsednik (2004)

The stolen base has certainly been made fashionable again because of rule changes around pitcher step-offs, the pitch timer and bigger bases, but it's been an incredible year for Acuna Jr. no matter how you slice it.

He's the presumptive favorite for National League MVP, hitting .336 with 41 homers, 104 RBI and the 70 stolen bases. He'll be battling for the award with Matt Olson, Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts.

Alongside Acuna Jr.'s dominance has been the Braves dominance as a whole. They have 102 wins, which is the most in baseball.

They are 102-56 and are headed for the No. 1 overall seed in the National League playoffs.

They will finish out a series with the Chicago Cubs on Thursday night at 7:20 p.m. ET before closing out the regular season with the Washington Nationals over the weekend.
