Atlanta Braves' Spencer Enters Strikeout Immortality with Dominant Performance on Friday Night

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Spencer Strider dominated the San Francisco Giants on Friday night, making some unique baseball history in the strikeout department.

The Atlanta Braves shut out the San Francisco Giants on Friday night by a score of 4-0.

The win moved the Braves to 79-42, the best mark in baseball, while the Giants dropped to 64-58.

They've dropped seven of their last 10 games but still own the second wild card spot in the National League.

The Braves were carried by ace starting pitcher Spencer Strider in the victory. The righty went seven innings, giving up no runs on just one hit. He walked one and struck out 10 in moving his record to 14-4 on the year. He's got an ERA of 3.57 and made some baseball history in the strikeout department.

Per ESPN Stats & Info:

Spencer Strider recorded his 4th career game with 10 strikeouts while allowing 1 or 0 hits, the most such games by a pitcher before turning 25 since the mound was set at its current distance in 1893.

Any time you have done something that hasn't been done in 130 years, you've done something right. Strider is the most dominant strikeout artist in the game, having punched out 227 batters this season. That is 40 more K's than Kevin Gausman, who has the second-most.

The performance by Strider also continues a historic run by Braves pitching in general, who have had three consecutive shutouts.

Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

the Braves have thrown 3 straight shutouts, tied for the longest streak in franchise history they’ve had 15 prior streaks of 3, last in 2015 have never pushed that to 4…yet

The Braves will play the Giants again on Saturday night.

First pitch is 7:20 p.m. ET.
