In this story:

The Baltimore Orioles rallied to beat the Colorado Rockies on Friday night by a score of 5-4. Gunnar Henderson continued his quest for the American League Rookie of the Year award by hitting a go-ahead home run in the eighth inning to help bring the win.

Baltimore is now 80-48 and owns the best record in the American League. They lead the AL East by 3.0 games over the Tampa Bay Rays and are trying to wrap up the No. 1 seed in the looming American League playoffs.

Since the Orioles win came in the first game of a series, the O's continue to re-write the baseball record books.

Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

most consecutive series of 2+ games without being swept:

 1942-44 Cardinals: 125

1903-05 Giants: 106

1922-24 Yankees: 83

2022-pres. Orioles: 81 ** active streak extended w/COL series h/t @EliasSports

It's been a drastic turnaround over the last two years for the O's, who were the laughingstock of baseball for a period between 2017-2021. They won only 47 games in the 2018 season.

The sweepless streak also means that O's standout catcher Adley Rutschman has never been swept yet in his career, which is also a historic achievement.

most consecutive series of 2+ games played in without being swept, to start career since 1900:

1941-44 Whitey Kurowski: 110

2022-pres. Adley Rutschman: 80 ** active streak extended w/COL series

The O's will take on the Rockies again on Saturday night. First pitch from Camden Yards is set for 7:05 p.m. ET.
