In this story:

The Boston Red Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 6-2 on Monday night as Sox infielder Pablo Reyes hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning.

With Trevor Story coming back from the injured list on Wednesday, the thought has been that Reyes could find himself the odd man out, either in terms of playing time or in terms of the roster itself.

Well, he made a heck of a case on Monday night to keep his spot, delivering a historic effort and doing something that's never happened in a big league game.

Per @OptaSTATS on Twitter:

Tonight Pablo Reyes of the @RedSox

- collected 3+ hits

- scored 3+ runs

- had multiple extra-base hits

- stole a base

- hit a walkoff grand slam

No other player in MLB history has done all of that in the same game.

Reyes has done a nice job for the Red Sox this year. In the wake of Xander Bogaerts leaving in free agency, the position has been a revolving door, but when healthy, Reyes has contributed.

He spent some time on the injured list but in 33 games, he's hitting .312 with a .357 on-base percentage and is delivering solid defense, something the team greatly needs.

We'll see what happens when Story returns but Reyes is certainly making a case that he belongs on a big league roster somewhere.

After the win, the Red Sox are 58-54 on the season. They are 5.0 games back in the American League wild card picture.

They'll play the Royals again on Tuesday at 7:10 p.m. ET.
