The Boston Red Sox lost to the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday by a score of 9-8. The Sox at one point trailed, 8-0, before mounting a ferocious comeback.

In the loss, Sox star Rafael Devers joined an inner circle of Red Sox legends in team history.

Per the popular Twitter account @SoxNotes:

Rafael Devers is the 35th player to record 500 RBI for the Red Sox. At 26 years and 218 days old, Devers is the 4th-youngest player to reach that mark with the Red Sox, behind only Hall of Famers Ted Williams, Bobby Doerr, and Jim Rice.

Any time you can join that cast of Hall of Famers, you're doing something right. Devers actually had been scuffling at the plate, so maybe this accomplishment will help get him out of the funk that he's been in.

He went 2-5 in the loss with two RBI and a run scored. He's now hitting .246 on the season with 13 home runs and 46 RBI.

For his career, he's a .280 hitter with 152 homers and now the 501 RBI. He's a two-time All-Star who helped the Red Sox win the World Series in 2018. He signed a massive $300+ million extension this past offseason.

He's also received MVP votes in three different seasons.

The Red Sox will host the Reds again on Wednesday at 7:10 p.m. ET. The Sox are now 28-26 and in last place in the American League East. James Paxton will pitch for the Sox on Wednesday while Luke Weaver goes for the Reds.
