Boston Red Sox' Veteran Reaches Major Career Milestone on Sunday

Boston Red Sox infielder Justin Turner reached a major personal milestone on Sunday afternoon as the Red Sox hosted the Detroit Tigers.

Turner played in his 1,500th career game. This is first season in Boston.

The 38-year-old is in his 15th year in the big leagues with the Orioles, Mets, Dodgers and Red Sox Sox. Since becoming a mainstay with the Dodgers, he's become one of the most productive players in baseball. He's a two-time All-Star who has received MVP votes in three different seasons. He's been named MVP of the National League Championship Series before and has won a World Series ring (2020).

Lifetime, he's a .289 hitter with a .365 on-base percentage. He's also got 183 home runs to his name. He's been an indispensable part of the Red Sox this season, hitting in the middle of the order and posting a .286 average while hitting 13 home runs and bringing in 73 runs. (He just homered against the Tigers as we were typing this).

The Red Sox entered play on Sunday at 3.0 games back of the third and final wild card spot in the American League and if they are going to make a late-season push, Turner will continue to be a big part of it.

The Red Sox will be off on Monday before starting a road series with the Washington Nationals on Tuesday. Washington enters play on Sunday as the last-place team in the National League East, though they have won seven of their last 10 games.
