One start after throwing six no-hit innings, Cincinnati Reds young starting pitcher Hunter Greene joined an elite club in baseball history in his start against the Boston Red Sox.

Per ESPN Stats & Info:

Hunter Greene is the 4th-fastest pitcher to reach 250 strikeouts as a starter since the mound was moved to its current distance in 1893.

The only pitchers to do it faster?

- Spencer Strider

- Corbin Burnes

- Kerry Wood

A few things stand out in that statistic:

1) It's impressive to be included in that list because that list includes guys with a long list of accomplishments. Burnes has won a Cy Young and is a two-time All-Star. Wood won a Rookie of the Year award and was also a two-time All-Star. Strider is already one of the best pitchers in the sport.

If Greene is able to carve out the career that Burnes and Wood had? That would be a very good career.

2) That list also shows you how prevalent the strikeout has become in baseball. Three of those four pitchers debuted in the last decade and all four are from the last 25 years. Strikeouts just happen at a higher rate now than they did before.

At the time of this posting, Greene has tossed six innings of one-run ball on Thursday against the Red Sox. He has allowed two hits and three walks while striking out eight.

The Reds and Red Sox are tied 1-1 in the top of the seventh inning. If the Reds win, they will have recorded a sweep.
