Cody Bellinger's Home Run on Tuesday Re-Wrote the Baseball Record Books

Cody Bellinger of the Chicago Cubs hit the 15,000th home run in Chicago Cubs history on Tuesday night in a win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Chicago Cubs beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 14-1 on Tuesday night, helping their case in the National League wild card picture.

The Cubs are now in sole possession of the third and final spot in the wild card race, 0.5 games ahead of the Miami Marlins and 1.0 game ahead of the Cincinnati Reds.

The Cubs blasted four home runs in the win, including the 26th of the year from Cody Bellinger, which was a historic shot in franchise history.

Per the DraftKings Sportsbook:

THIS BELLIBOMB IS THE CUBS 15,000TH HR IN FRANCHISE HISTORY

Cubs join the Yankees and Giants as the only MLB franchises to hit 15,000 home runs

It's appropriate that Bellinger hit the historic blast, as he's having a great year as the team's offensive catalyst. He's got the 26 home runs, 94 RBI and 20 stolen bases - all while hitting .310.

Bellinger won the MVP award in 2019 when he was with the Dodgers but endured injury and struggle over the next few years before winding up with Chicago.

He'll be a free agent at the end of the year and should have several suitors on the open market.

The Cubs will be back in action again on Wednesday night. First pitch is set for 7:40 p.m. ET as Mitch Keller (PIT) battles with Justin Steele.

Keller is 12-9 with a 4.04 ERA while Steele is 16-4 with a 2.73 and in the battle for the National League Cy Young award.

For scoreboard watching purposes, the Diamondbacks are hosting the Giants, the Reds are hosting the Twins and the Marlins are hosting the Mets.
