Cabrera is retiring after the year and is doing his best to make it a memorable end to his career.
He's been downgraded to a part-time player this year, appearing in just 67 games. He's hitting a very respectable .260 but has been devoid of power, hitting just one home run and having 17 RBI.
That shouldn't take a way from what is a surefire Hall of Fame career. One of the most accomplished hitters in baseball history, Cabrera is a .307 lifetime hitter. He's a member of both the 3,000 hit club and the 500-home run club (508). He's a 12-time All-Star, a seven-time Silver Slugger, a four-time batting champion, an MVP and a Triple Crown winner.
He also won the 2003 World Series with the Marlins.
He's in his 21st year in the big leagues with the Marlins and Tigers, having spent the last 16 in Detroit.
The Tigers entered play on Wednesday at 50-63 on the season. They are in third place in the American League Central, which is currently led by the Minnesota Twins.
Those two teams finish out a series on Thursday afternoon.
