Justin Verlander Moves into Tie Atop All-Time List After Dominant Game 1 Start

After a dominant Game 1 start against the Minnesota Twins, Justin Verlander (Houston Astros) is now tied atop this impressive list in baseball history.

It got a little dicey late, but the Houston Astros beat the Minnesota Twins on Saturday night 6-4 to take a 1-0 series in the American League Division Series.

The defending champions got a multi-home run performance from slugger Yordan Alvarez and also got a great start on the mound from future Hall of Famer Justin Verlander.

The righty went 6.0 innings, surrendering no runs on four hits. He walked three and struck out six.

With that stat line, Verlander has joined some impressive names in baseball history.

Per ESPN Stats & Info:

In yesterday's Game 1 win, Justin Verlander posted the 6th scoreless start of his postseason career.

That is tied with Madison Bumgarner and Tom Glavine for the most in MLB history.

Bumgarner is known as one of the most clutch playoff pitchers of the Modern Era and Glavine is in the Hall of Fame, so that's certainly an elite group.

Verlander has been fortunate to make several playoff appearances in his career between the Astros and Tigers. He's 17-11 lifetime with a 3.54 ERA in the playoffs - having thrown more than 213 career innings in October.

He helped the Astros win the World Series in both 2017 and 2022 and was traded back to Houston at the trade deadline this year from the New York Mets.

One of the most accomplished pitchers of his generation, Verlander is 257-141 for his career. He went 13-8 this season with a 3.22 ERA.

Game 2 of the ALDS comes up on Sunday night. First pitch is set for 8:03 p.m. ET.
