In addition to the 240 homers, Perez has 775 career RBI. He is a four-time Silver Slugger award winner, a five-time Gold Glover, an eight-time All-Star selection and a World Series champion (2015). He also won MVP of that World Series, when the Royals beat the New York Mets.
This season, he's hitting .246 with 17 homers and 43 RBI and has been the most reliable player on one of the worst teams in baseball.
The Royals and Guardians will play game two of their series on Tuesday night in Cleveland as veterans Zack Greinke and Aaron Civale square off.
Greinke is 1-10 this season with a 5.40 ERA for the Royals and is a candidate to be dealt at the trade deadline. Civale is now 3-2 for Cleveland with a 2.71 ERA and will need to pick up the slack in the wake of the injury news to ace Shane Bieber.
First pitch from Progressive Field is set for 7:10 p.m. ET.
