The Los Angeles Dodgers mopped up on the woeful Oakland Athletics on Thursday night by a score of 8-2.

Julio Urias got the win on the mound after tossing five scoreless innings and Freddie Freeman went 3-for-5 at the plate with a home run and a double.

That performance earned him a special spot in Dodgers team history.

Per ESPN Stats & Info:

Freddie Freeman recorded his 40th double this season in his 107th game.

That is the fewest games by a Dodger since 1900 to 40 doubles in a single season.

Freeman is hitting an absurd .341 this season with 22 home runs and 76 RBI. He's also posted a 1.016 OPS and while Ronald Acuna is the favorite for the National League MVP, Freeman is doing his best to enter the conversation.

Lifetime, he's a .301 hitter with 314 homers and 1,117 RBI. He helped the Braves win the 2021 World Series and will look to have Los Angeles in a position to win a title this year.

The Dodgers are now 62-45 on the season, have won three straight, and lead the National League West by 2.5 games over the San Francisco Giants.

The Dodgers will start a critical series with the San Diego Padres on Friday night at Petco Park. The Padres have crept back into the playoff picture and are currently just 4.0 games back in the National League wild card race.

Dodgers rookie Bobby Miller will pitch against Padres veteran Yu Darvish.

Game time is set for 9:40 p.m. ET.
