Milwaukee Brewers Rookie Joins Hall of Famer in Team Lore

Milwaukee Brewers rookie Sal Frelick has done something in his first two games that hasn't been done since Hall of Famer Paul Molitor.

The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Cincinnati Reds 3-2 on Monday night. With the win, the Brewers have a 1.5 game lead on the Reds in highly-competitive National League Central.

While veteran Christian Yelich had the game-winning hit in the bottom of the ninth inning, exciting Brewers rookie Sal Frelick continued the great start to his career, going 1-for-3 with a home run and a walk. The No. 17 prospect in all of baseball was hitting cleanup, and joined Hall of Famer Paul Molitor in team history.

Per ESPN Stats & Info:

Sal Frelick is the 2nd Brewer to have 5+ hits and a HR in his first 3 career games.

The other: Paul Molitor in 1978

Molitor is one of the most revered players in franchise history, so if Frelick keeps putting himself in statistical company with him, he'll be doing more than alright.

Frelick is the No. 2 prospect in the Brewers organization and appears set to make a big impact as the team chases another division title.

Colin Rea pitched six strong innings in the win, surrendering just five hits and two runs while striking out five. Ace reliever Devin Williams earned the win in relief by tossing a scoreless ninth.

The two teams meet again on Tuesday night in Milwaukee as former Cy Young winner Corbin Burnes is opposed by rookie lefty Andrew Abbott.

Burnes is having another strong season, going 9-5 with a 3.49 ERA. Abbott has been excellent as well, going 5-2 with a 2.10 ERA.

First pitch is set for 8:10 p.m. ET.
