Another Incredible Stat Showing Just How Rare This Season is For New York Yankees

In this story:
The New York Yankees beat the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday afternoon at Yankee Stadium but it was the circumstances around the game that were more interesting than the game itself, at least for the Yankees.
Per Bryan Hoch, Yankees reporter for MLB.com:
From @MLBNetwork: Today is just the 17th time in 4,102 games during Brian Cashman’s tenure as GM that the #Yankees have played a game while mathematically eliminated from the postseason.

That's certainly amazing and speaks to the longevity of the Yankees franchise under Cashman's leadership. He has been the general manager of the team since 1998 and the team has only missed the playoffs in 2016, 2014, and 2013. He has helped the Yankees win the World Series in 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2009.
After getting to the ALCS in 2022, this season has certainly been a disappointment for the Yankees, who have been beset by injuries and poor performance. The team has seen Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Frankie Montas, Tommy Kahnle, Josh Donaldson, Harrison Bader and Luis Severino miss large portions of the season.
Donaldson is now in Milwaukee and Bader was claimed off waivers by the Reds.
The Yankees are 79-77 on the season and will look to try to finish the season above .500. They are taking on the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night at 7:07 p.m. ET.
The game will be played at Rogers Centre as Yankees starter Michael King goes up against Kevin Gausman.
King is 4-7 with a 2.66 ERA this year while Gausman is 12-9 with a 3.29.
