Seattle Mariners Can Set a New Franchise Mark on Friday Night

In this story:
The Seattle Mariners enter play on Friday at a very pedestrian 48-48 on the season. Armed with big expectations heading into the year, the M's have largely disappointed and remain 5.5 games back of the final wild card spot.
But even average teams can have great moments, and the Mariners have had them in the form of excellent pitching performances each of the last two days.
In a Wednesday loss to the Twins, Luis Castillo struck out 11 batters over six innings and George Kirby followed it up 10-strikeout performance over seven innings in a Thursday win over Minnesota.
With those back-to-back performances, the M's have made a little team history, and have a chance to make even more on Friday.
Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:
Luis Castillo & George Kirby are the first Mariners teammates with 10+ strikeouts in consecutive team games since Roenis Elias & Taijuan Walker on June 19-20, 2015
it’s the 11th such 2-game streak in franchise history
they’ve never had a 10-K pitcher in 3 straight team games

It will be a tall task to get that record on Friday night as the Mariners kick off a series with the very tough Toronto Blue Jays. Posing one of the best offenses in the sport, Toronto will be very difficult to sit down in that manner.
Up to the task will be Mariners rookie pitcher Bryce Miller, who is 6-3 with a 3.66 ERA on the season.
He'll be opposed by Yusei Kikuchi of the Blue Jays, who is 7-3 with a 4.13 ERA.
First pitch is 10:10 p.m. ET.
