Seattle Mariners' Julio Rodriguez Just Wrapped Up a Five-Game Stretch Not Done For 100 Years

Seattle Mariners star Julio Rodriguez just completed a five-game stretch that saw him amass 18 hits. The Mariners also won all five games.

The Seattle Mariners beat the Houston Astros on Sunday by a score of 7-6. Dylan Moore and Dom Canzone each had four hits in the victory and Eugenio Suarez hit a two-run home run.

With the sweep of the 'Stros, the Mariners have now won six straight games, have moved to a season-high 14 games over .500 at 69-55 and now own the third wild card spot in the American League by 0.5 games.

While Julio Rodriguez had just one hit in Sunday's win, he still had the greatest five-game stretch of any player in the last 100 years of baseball history.

Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

Julio Rodríguez’s 18 hits in the last 5 games are tied for the 2nd-most in a 5-game span since at least 1901, behind only:

1923 Jimmy Johnston: 19

Rodriguez has been red-hot through this Mariners streak, carrying the offense on his back.

He's certainly on track to win the American League Player of the Week award and is now hitting .278 this season with 21 home runs, 79 RBI and 33 stolen bases. He's posted a .798 OPS in the follow up to his American League Rookie of the Year campaign.

The Mariners will be back at it again on Monday night when they travel to Chicago for a series with the hapless White Sox.

First pitch is set for 8:10 p.m. ET as Luis Castillo pitches for Seattle against Touki Toussaint.

Castillo is 9-7 with a 3.23 ERA while Touissaint is 1-5 with a 4.47.
