Rookies For Seattle Mariners, Los Angeles Angels Do Something Only Done Once in Last 120 Years on Sunday

In this story:
The Seattle Mariners beat the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday by a score of 3-2. The win moved the surging Mariners to a season-best eight games over .500 at 60-52 while the loss pushed the Angels to under .500 at 56-57.
The Mariners, seeking their second consecutive playoff berth, are just 2.5 games back in the AL wild card race while the Angels are now 7.0 games back.
The Mariners won the game in extra-innings so neither starting pitcher figured in the decision, but starting pitching was the true story of the day.
Mariners rookie Bryce Miller gave up just one earned run over 5.0 innings in his no-decision. He gave up five hits and struck out 10. His season ERA is now 4.20.
Angels rookie Chase Silseth was also dominant, allowing two earned runs over 7.0 innings. He walked one and struck out 12. His ERA is now 3.72 for the year.
The two rookie hurlers' performances combined made baseball history, accomplishing something that had only been done once before in the Modern Era (since 1901).
Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:
Bryce Miller and Chase Silseth combined for 22 strikeouts in today's Mariners vs. Angels game. It is only the second time since at least 1901 that two rookie pitchers each had 10+ strikeouts in a game.

The Angels won't have much time to get over being swept by the Mariners as they'll play again on Monday.
They host the San Francisco Giants at 9:38 p.m. ET.
The Mariners are off until Tuesday, when they play the San Diego Padres.
